image Game playing is another great way to help your children improve their literacy. Classics such as Scrabble are wonderful for improving spelling and vocabulary. Boggle is also very good, especially try the new version called Boggle Slam which focusses on Verbal Reasoning type 6 (Susan Daughtrey). Articulate is a widely available board game which is good for vocabulary and eloquence. You can play an online version here (click on the play button located on the left of the page). Other after dinner games such as ‘Word Bluff’ available from Waterstones.

A host of educational games are available to play on numerous consoles. These are often much more acceptable to children because they feel much less like work! My family enjoys Big Brain Academy which we play together, Brain Training and Maths Training. The Professor Layton games are full of puzzles that need to be solved in order to progress through the story and solve the mystery. My daughter has a selection of the Nintendo DS version.

image Other games available incoulde this one which is available on the Nintendo DS and Wii (they even have versions available for French and Spanish). This game from America Mensa Academy also looks interesting and is available on 3DS and Wii consoles. This version of brain training on the X-Box 360 looks quite good too. image
